LENT
Lent is a season of repentance…
Much like the season of Advent, Lent is a time of anticipation where we remember our need for salvation and repentance. This forty-day period reminds us of Jesus’ forty days of fasting in the wilderness and helps us to focus on preparing our hearts to celebrate the good news of Easter.
Christians have traditionally set aside the season of Lent to live into the disciplines of prayer, fasting, and generosity. This might look like:
Establishing new habits of prayer, such as praying the psalms or praying for an extended amount of time in the morning and evening;
Fasting from certain foods or drinks, or choosing to abstain from a particular activity, material possession, or even a vice;
Increasing our generosity, whether it be financial generosity or being generous with our time and possessions.
Lent can be a helpful and reorienting practice…
While our church does not require anyone to observe Lent (Col. 2:16), we have assembled a few resources below to help those in our church family who desire to participate in this season of the church year.
Additionally, our pastors would be happy to talk with you about Lent and help you process through how you might take part.
